2005           Best Thesis Advisor Award, given by Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for supervising the Ph.D. thesis of Dr. Said Emre Alper, who received the “METU THESIS OF THE YEAR AWARD.”

2004           Research Encouragement Award, given by TÜBITAK (Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey), for his “international level outstanding studies on Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and Microsystem Technologies”

2003           Best Thesis Advisor Award, given by Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for supervising the Ph.D. thesis of Dr. Selim Eminoglu, who received the “METU THESIS OF THE YEAR AWARD.”

2003           METU Prof. Dr. Tarik G. Somer Academic Achievement Award, given by Middle East Technical University each year to three members of Engineering Faculty who have high performance.

2003           3^rd Place Award in 3-D MEMS Design Challange, organized by MEMGen Corp. (Currently Microfabrica Inc.). Awarded to Said Emre Alper and Tayfun Akin for the design titled “Tactical-Grade Symmetric & Decoupled Micro-Gyroscope,” among 132 designs from 24 countries.

2001           Best Thesis Advisor Award, given by Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for supervising the M.S. thesis of Mr. Said Emre Alper, who received the “METU THESIS OF THE YEAR AWARD.”

2001           1st Place Award, Microsystems Category in Operational Design Contest, organized by DATE 2000 (Design, Automation and Test in Europe Conference) and CMP (a microelectronics fabrication foundry in France).  Awarded to Said Emre Alper and Tayfun Akin for the project titled “High-Performance Surface Micromachined Gyroscopes using MUMPS Process.”

2000           1999 Academic Achievement Award, given by Middle East Technical University for being in the top 5% among Engineering Faculty members according to the Annual Performance Assessment Scheme.

2000           3rd Place Award in Operational Category, Student Design Contest 2000 organized by The University of Michigan among a number of universities in the world and sponsored by CADENCE, Mentor Graphics, TI, IBM, Intel, Compaq, AMD, Lucent Tech., Dallas SemiConductor, QualComm, and Design Automation Conference 2000. Awarded to Haluk Kulah and Tayfun Akin.

1999           Best Thesis Advisor Award, given by Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for supervising the M.S. thesis of Mr. Haluk Külah, who received the “METU THESIS OF THE YEAR AWARD.”

1999           Successful Faculty Award, given by VAKIFBANK and METU.

1996           Research and Encouragement Award, given by Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. Parlar Education and Research Foundation for “his original work in microelectronics and microsensors.”

1994           First Prize in Analog/Digital Mixed-Signal Design Category (Experienced Class), 1994 Student VLSI Design Contest sponsored by Mentor Graphics Corporation, Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, Texas Instruments, and Electronic Design Magazine.
